I almost kept this secret to myself
I really hadn’t planned to share this technique.
Not now, at least.
But once Avi Yap and I were jamming at the end of his second lecture, I couldn’t ignore how much it would improve an already powerful moment he’d created.
And right then, I decided I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer.
It’s a palm I created called Under Palm.
And up until now, I’d only ever taught it once, inside my Magic Mastery membership.
Only problem was, once I shared it with Avi, he got so excited by it that we almost lost him.
Throughout the entire rest of the jam session, you could see him staring, fixated on his hands, with a look of wonder on his face, as his mind connected dot after dot.
Every few minutes he’d come up with another application, another handling, or another way it could improve one of his routines.
That’s because Under Palm solves several of the limitations common with other palms, including one of the biggest challenges in coin magic: openly displaying one coin while secretly concealing another in a way that looks completely natural.
It’s also incredibly versatile, has great angles, and is remarkably easy to get into and back out of.
And once Avi started playing with it, the possibilities just kept multiplying.
What started as a quick explanation became an extended conversation, as the two of us explored how Under Palm could strengthen several of the incredible routines Avi had shared in the previous couple of hours, and how it could inspire entirely new possibilities.
Moments like that just can’t be scripted. They’re exactly why I love these live lectures.

It uses the striking image of the effect performed in the dirt to show how removing its usual staging and equipment makes the magic feel more spontaneous, practical, and real.

A coin matrix in the dirt
I never thought I’d see a coin matrix performed in the dirt.
Not metaphorically.
Literally in the dirt.
Rocks. Uneven ground. No close-up pad. No table. No cover cards.
And somehow… it still looked impossibly clean.
In fact, better than most versions I’ve seen done under perfect conditions.
This immediately caught my attention because I love the matrix plot, but very rarely do I end up performing an actual matrix. I’m just not the type to walk around with a close-up pad.
I’m guessing you’re not either.
And even if I had one on hand, I wouldn’t really want to pull it out for an actual performance.
Because the moment you lay down a close-up pad, you’ve created a little space where people already expect impossible things to happen.
You’ve separated the magic from your spectator’s reality.
And you’ve given people a reason to start looking for a method before the magic even begins.
But magic hits so much harder when it feels like it’s interrupting someone’s ordinary life.
That’s why Omnitrix is such a game changer.
It strips away all the staging and framing that usually accompanies even the best matrix routines.
It’s as close to a truly impromptu matrix as you can get.
Four coins are laid out in a grid, just like a standard matrix routine. Except you can place those coins on any surface. Any table. Any floor.
Even in your spectator’s hands.
You reach down to touch two coins and simply turn one over. And as soon as the other side is visible, it’s suddenly, somehow, two coins.
And the other hand?
Empty.
You do it again, and two coins become three. Just by being turned over.
Then you gather the three into your hand, openly and fairly, and drop them on the table (or ground). In that moment, they’re suddenly four.
Your other hand is empty again.
No cards to cover the coins. No special surfaces. No gimmicks.
Just coins. And hands.
And despite how impossible it looks, it’s practical enough that almost anyone can pick it up with a little practice…
A performance like this changes the feeling of the matrix effect completely.
Instead of feeling procedural, it starts to feel real.
This is one of those innovations that only a mind like Rogelio’s could come up with.
He has a unique knack for finding ways to remove assumptions from classic plots and make them feel more direct, practical, and impossible at the same time.
And beyond Rogelio’s full handling, I also added a section of my own to the tutorial where I go into the subtleties and details that really make the effect deceptive in performance.

Hey [First Name],
Would you pay $20,000 for a card trick?
Not even some fancy gimmick.
Just a method.
One that, for all you know, might not even be practical.
I sure wouldn’t.
But apparently someone would…
A few weeks ago, an unnamed magician posted on The Magic Cafe claiming to have essentially the perfect Open Prediction method.
As he described the effect, it was so strong that many people simply refused to believe it was possible.
And I get why. It really, truly seems like it shouldn’t exist.
You openly predict a card.
A spectator freely shuffles a deck.
They deal through the cards and stop whenever they want.
No coercion, no influence. Truly, whenever they feel like it.
That card is your prediction.
It’s that simple.
But with the actual method still unreleased, no one could agree on whether it was genuine or complete nonsense.
Then, a well-known magician publicly offered $20,000 for the rights. If the effect was exactly what was being claimed.
Blog posts were written.
Videos were made.
Public challenges were issued.
Most recently someone offered to pay even more than $20,000.
Which has since kicked off what’s looking to become a proper bidding war…
People are losing their minds over this method, and nobody knows what it even takes to make it happen.
Pig Cake, on the other hand, had a very different reaction.
“Why do you care?” he said.
“You know you’re probably never going to end up doing it.
You’re probably just gonna sit on it and maybe bust it out every once in a while…”
Which is a really good point.
Because that’s the problem with an undefined method, isn’t it? The result may appear perfect, but without knowing how practical the handling is, there’s no way to know if it’s actually something you can do.
And then, to really make his point, he went ahead and did something incredible.
He performed what looked like almost exactly the same trick.
A different method, almost surely, but the result was essentially the same.
And while none of us know how practical the $20,000 method is, I can tell you this about Pig Cake’s version:
It’s a worker.
No endless procedure.
No impossible setup.
No “technically correct but nobody would ever do this in the real world.”
Just a practical solution that creates an astonishingly similar result.
And from the audience's perspective, the result is every bit as impossible.
And the wildest part of this whole saga?
Pig Cake isn’t asking $20,000 for his method.
In fact, he’s giving it away FREE, as one of four bonus tutorials he’s included with his new project.
Which should tell you something about the rest of the project.
Because if most creators were sitting on a method for an effect that’s capable of generating this much hype and five-figure offers…
They wouldn’t just give it away.
But Pig Cake just stuck it in the bonus section.
Because compared to the material he chose for the actual project, this was just a bit player.
For example:
Think Of A Card lets you spread a borrowed, shuffled deck and have someone merely THINK of a card. They never touch it. Never remove it. Never say it out loud.
Yet moments later, you select their card from the deck.
It’s about as straightforward and clean as a card trick can get.
Or Pig Cake’s ACAAN, where he takes one of magic’s most impossible plots and strips away the usual baggage.
No stack. No setup. Just a borrowed shuffled deck, a freely named card, a freely named number, and a direct impossible outcome.
Then there’s Hedberg’s Time, where a card repeatedly travels backwards through time in a series of increasingly impossible switches.
And Strawberry Turnover, which is so fooling Pig Cake almost didn’t want to give it away.
It requires essentially one simple move and creates a sequence of visual moments that look far beyond the technical difficulty involved.
And then there’s Opener: a fast, punchy sequence of hyper-visual color changes that’s the perfect setup for his other effects, or almost any other.
That’s the real project.
The Open Prediction?
Just an extra.

I saw just how much the right preparation can matter one night in the Hoh Rainforest.
Half our campsite woke up soaked.
The other half slept like babies.
Same storm. Same valley. Same night.
The only difference?
Gear.
That night taught me something I’ve never forgotten: one bad gear decision can ruin an entire camping trip. And most campers don’t realize it until they’re already cold, wet, and miserable.
I was camping with a big group of friends when a huge and unexpected storm rolled in. It rained so hard that night that the valley we were in flooded.

Sometimes not even that.
I’ve camped in tents, hammocks, bivvy bags, and directly on the ground under the stars.
I’ve also spent more than eight years living full-time in an RV, waking up every morning to the beauty of the wild right outside my door.
Camping has been my retreat, my teacher, and my constant companion through every stage of life.
I’ve had those dream trips where everything just clicked. Warm nights by the fire. Peaceful mornings in my hammock. Countless nights where I’m more comfortable than I’d be at home in my own bed.
And I’ve also had trips that left me questioning my life choices.
Many a long, lonely night soaked, cold, utterly miserable, and counting down the hours until I could go home.

The amazing ones that heal you and you’ll remember forever, and the ones where you swear you’re never doing this again.
Most of the time, the difference comes down to one thing: preparation.
